Rebekah's 4-Year Well Check-up

Rebekah had her 4-year well check-up this morning. I was really glad it was scheduled early because it was a jam packed appointment that lasted an hour long! When nurse Mary first called us back she got Rebekah's weight and height. Rebekah is 36 lbs. (50th percentile) and 41 inches (75th percentile).

Following this Rebekah had her blood pressure checked and then went down the hall for a hearing test. Rebekah was rather distracted during the hearing test, and nurse Mary said that Rebekah claimed to hear some sounds that were not there. (Enter "The Twighlight Zone" music.) I think Rebekah also didn't tell her when she heard some sounds as well. So, the results were not accurate, but Rebekah's response through the hearing test was very typical of most four-year-olds.

After the hearing test Dr. Rodgers gave Rebekah the typical well-child exam and talked with me about any concerns I had. Rebekah did amazingly well during the exam and did exactly what Dr. Rodgers asked her to do. Rebekah was also in a silly, goofy mood while we talked to the doctor, and it made for some laughs. She hopped all over the room while telling Dr. Rodgers about her birthday and what she wants to be when she grows up. Rebekah has been telling me for months now that she wants to be a gingerbread man when she grows up. This was no exception, and we had a good laugh about it as well as the things Rebekah told her doctor that she likes to eat. Rebekah said she likes cookies, and when Dr. Rodgers asked if she liked fruit she said she did, but with chocolate. When Dr. Rodgers asked about veggies Rebekah told her she didn't like them (which is true). It was evident that Rebekah has a sweet tooth.

Following the exam we got a urine sample and finger blood sample, all of which came back normal. Lastly Rebekah had a vision test. Like the hearing test, she was easily distracted, and Rebekah scored 20/50 vision. Nurse Mary was not concerned, and she and Dr. Rodgers both said that was good for Rebekah's age.

While we were there I had Joshua's ears checked. He's pulled on it a couple of times since he finished the last round of antibiotics, so I wanted to make sure his infection had cleared up. Both his ears are fine now, so the bothersome in his left ear could be due to itchiness from healing or it could be due to teething. (He has not cut a tooth in months!)

Overall, we got two good check-ups, and Rebekah won't have to have any shots until next year since she won't start school until 2010.
