Funny Kids

Rebekah has said a couple of funny things lately. Yesterday she and Joshua were not feeling very well. Both had a very low-grade fever or slightly elevated temperature. Joshua definitely got my cold, although yesterday Rebekah just laid around for part of the day. Last night as I was brushing her teeth she told me, "It's dangerous to brush your teeth when you're sick." Then today as she was holding Micah and looking at his lips she saw his milk blisters and said, "I see his baby teeth."

Joshua has become a little dare devil on his tricycle. This is the latest thing he has started doing. The first time I saw it I about freaked as he went over the curb at the bottom of our driveway. I was afraid he would head down the hill and run into the swing set.



Darrin said one time he headed straight for the slide and steered just right to go under the slide. Whew! I'm glad I didn't see that one!

This past week Darrin's mom has been here for a few days. She was tickled to finally get her hands on Micah upon arrival on Sunday. She went back home today.


I am hoping to start getting into a routine this week. I'm not sure how I'm going to juggle mornings without Darrin once he goes back to work. It has been so great having him home to help out, especially to take the kids to preschool. I'm sure we'll figure it out, but it's going to take some working out since I'm breastfeeding too.

However, Micah has been a great baby! He goes about four hours between feedings at night, so he's really only up twice in the night. He is nursing really well too. I took him to Breastfeeding Support Group on Wednesday, and he is gaining nicely. He was 6 lbs. 12 oz. which is already 5 oz. past his birth weight. In addition, it was nice to get out of the house for a change. I'm looking forward to the day we can get out of the house on a regular basis, but, oh, am I enjoying our precious son!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Lately the kids have said a couple of funny things, but Rebekah had a few funny comments a while back that I had wanted to post last summer. When we went to visit Carrie and Daniel for Katelyn's baby dedication they got a kiddie pool for the kids to use since we had brought our bathing suits. Rebekah was particularly fascinated with the difference between how guys and ladies dress to go swimming. She went up to Daniel and asked, "Do you show your nipples in the pool?" (or something to that effect). Then they went out to play and Daniel climbed in the pool with the kids. Rebekah asked Daniel why he had hair all over his body. He told her that boys have hair on them. Rebekah replied, "Joshua doesn't have hair all over his body." Oh, my! What am I going to do with her?

Joshua is now starting to say funny things. Last week after we got home from Chick-fil-A Joshua wanted to drive in his Cozy Coop in the basement. I brought up his leftover lemonade. He went absolutely hysterical, and I had a hard time calming him down. He finally came upstairs, and I got him to settle down some, but I also knew he was very tired. I figured out he was wanting to take his lemonade downstairs while he drove around because he cried, "I want to drink and drive!"

Sunday after Cubbies Rebekah came home RAVING about their snack, saying it was "phenomenal"! What a big word for her! I finally discovered that they had trail mix with M&Ms, pretzels, etc. All she told me was that it had a lot of stuff in it and some sugar. Who knew that trail mix was phenomenal to a five-year-old?

Rebekah is also all the time making up words for things. I'll ask her to tell me what it means, and it's so obvious she has made it up herself. It's so cute! She's also telling me that "______" is Spanish for ________. It is clear she has made up a Spanish word. She'll do the same thing for sign language. She'll create a move with her hands and say it's the sign for a particular word. So funny!

Random Things

When we left to go to the library it started to sprinkle. I said something like, "Oh, no, it's raining." Rebekah replied calmly, "This is a disaster. What are we going to do? We'll just have to use our umbrellas."

I've discovered using mousse in Joshua's hair. The results are phenomenal!



Who knew fixing boys' hair would be as fun as girls' hair?

Rebekah's Ramblings

Here are some funny and/or sweet things Rebekah has said recently.

"Let's be friends forever," while cuddling with me on the couch.

During bedtime prayers: "I love God. I hug Him and I kiss Him. In Jesus' name, Amen."

"I want to be brown like our new President."

Here's a little dialogue between the two of us.
Rebekah: Let's go home, Mommy.
Me: We are home. Where at home do you want to go?
Rebekah: To Wal-Mart.

And another dialogue:
Rebekah: Mommy, I'm getting ready to go bowling.
Me: What are you doing to get ready to go bowling?
Rebekah: I'm putting on my bowling shoes, my bowling pants, my bowling skirt, my bowling socks...(her voice fades)

A few minutes pass and Rebekah returns.
Rebekah: I need to go bowling.
Me: Where are you going to go bowling?
Rebekah: Where Maggie goes to....You turn left then right.

Rebekah's Ramblings

Wednesday we met our friends Jessica, Heidi, and Kyle at the mall to play in the play area. Rebekah and Heidi had the best time playing together. Since the play area is on the lower level of the mall, and we parked on the upper level, we took the escalator. Every time, going and coming, we stepped off the escalator, Rebekah said with excitement, "That was amazing!"

This afternoon Rebekah looked at her Daddy and said, "You are terrific!" Amazing and terrific are both new words for Rebekah.

Darrin was trying to get Rebekah to go to the bathroom to use the potty, so he raced her. Of course, he let her win. When they reached the bathroom Darrin said, "You won!" Rebekah said, "No! I'm three!"
